Consular Section / Визовый отдел: All students pursuing full-time academic programs are issued F-1 visas. Your wife would be issued a visa by virtue of her status as your family member. Her visa classification would be F-2. In order to apply for a F-1 visa, you must present an I-20 from your educational institution. Alternatively, if you are applying to conduct research or work as a temporary research assistant, you may be applying for a J-1 visa (your wife would receive a J-2 visa). In order to apply for this type of visa you must present form DS-2019 also from your educational institution. They can help you determine the proper visa classification for your time in the U.S.

In order to encourage new participants, we will be considering applications for third-time participants at the end of the interviewing season. We believe that first and second-time participants get more out of the cultural exchange program. Third-time participants have already experienced a lot of the American culture. It is not impossible, but again, you will be interviewed later in the season to ensure that all new participants are able to get interview slots.

As such, we believe that students who will be going for the first time are poised to get more out of the program than repeat participants. In the State Department's regulations, it is written that no more than 10% of participants may be repeat participants. This is a worldwide cap, and should not affect Russian students this year. However, we encourage agencies to focus on recruiting new participants rather than repeat applicants.

Students in other faculties are certainly welcome to study in the United States. Those interested in pursuing academic programs in America need to identify the university and proposed course of study individually. While there are some programs in place for high school students (FLEX for instance) most academic programs are administered independently.
